MINISTRY AT A PERSONAL LEVEL: THE POWER OF A CHRISTIAN TESTIMONY

PIN ministry-at-a-personal-level-the-power-of-a-christian-testimony

Ministry is a word that is easily passed over today. It paints a picture of pulpits, churches, and such. That’s not what this is about. Let’s explore you and your Christian testimony.

First of all, I know that some of you have had, and continue to have, some remarkable experiences in your walk with the Lord. Your Christian testimony is powerful and interesting.

Next, I know that some of you are on the decision point of whether to write and share your testimony for real. For some of you, it is way more than just writing a book. Yes, it is meant to become book ministry, a personal ministry through sharing your experiences and the things you have learned in walking with the Lord.

Ministry at a Personal Level Defined

Personal ministry is allowing the love of God to flow through you to others. The result brings them into a deeper personal relationship with Him by the sharing of your experiences.

This is about personal ministry. There are those called into the five-fold or pulpit ministry. That is a subject for another day, although it is very common for these ministers to expand their reach through writing books as well.

Personal ministry, for me, grows out of the scripture found in 2 Corinthians 5:18. It says that God has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. The context of this verse is not speaking of that five-fold ministry but is directed toward all who are born again.

So, each of us has this ministry function at a personal level, and each of us makes decisions about what to do with that. If you are a Christian and you are a writer (remember, all it takes to be a writer is to write) then you may be in line to share your learning and experiences to help bring others to a deeper and richer experience with the Lord.

Christian Writer Help

I help authors get their books written, polished, and published. I have more than twelve years experience, and the majority of those authors are Christians with a message they feel compelled to share for the betterment of others.

While some are pulpit ministers or traveling ministers, a good percentage of them are Christian writers who believe they are called to write books. They literally call it their book ministry and they are simply believers. These are the everyday authors who feel led to share their Christian testimony and insights they have learned along the way.

Ministry Motivators for the Christian Writer

How do you know if you should write your Christian testimony or book? There are many motivating factors that contribute to your knowing this is right for you. Here are some of the most common ones I encounter in dealing with my clients.

1. A sense that God is moving on you to write and share
2. Heartfelt desire to help others gain victory over something that you have overcome
3. You know people need to lighten up and you have some humor in your testimony that can help them do just that
4. What you have learned in your faith walk can bring freedom and life to others

The list goes on and on, but I ask you, “What’s your motivation for ministry?” Take some time to prayerfully consider this question rather than just dismiss it and move on.

Book Ministry Categories

From my experience as a writing coach, ghostwriter, and editor, I point out here several types of Christian testimonies that suit themselves very well to book ministry. These are basic, generic categories reflecting many options within each one. And they all have their roots deep in the personal life of the author.

• The miraculous
• Experiences & downloads from your fellowship with the Lord
• Inspiration & encouragement
• Humor

Ministry Possibilities

There are as many ways to share your Christian testimony as there are stars in the sky. I say all the time that no one can tell your unique story but you. You have a one-of-a-kind perspective and experience.

The Miraculous

Stories and testimonies of the miraculous are great tools for ministry. If you have had a true encounter with God and you saw Him do something beyond the natural realm, that is noteworthy and needs to be written and shared.

I work with Christian authors who have experienced amazing deliverance from impossible circumstances. From horrific car accidents, being held as hostages or attacked, healed from sickness, they witnessed God’s miraculous deliverance firsthand. These testimonies carry amazing power for good.

Experiences & Downloads from the Lord

As you know, ministry works by sharing the things you learn in your personal walk with the Lord. Write about your insights into various areas of living a Christian life. Things you see revealed in the Word of God are good topics.

I help people share their testimonies and experiences about everything from Godly time management to training up your children in the way they should go. There is no limit to what you can write about here.

Inspiration & Encouragement

Whether or not you realize it, you minister at a personal level by sharing your day-to-day choices. Therefore, it is interesting and helpful to let the reader look over your shoulder to reveal your point of view as a believer.

So, write your Christian testimony of courage in the face of personal danger or in facing financial or other crises. It blesses people to find someone else who faced and won over the same situation they are facing.

Personal victories great and small bring great encouragement to many. I work with clients who share their God-given victories. Their testimonies are great tools for ministry.

Humor

Someone once said that life is too important to be taken too seriously. I agree. God has a wonderful sense of humor. You see it in all kinds of wonderful ways. These days Christian comics bring refreshing and relief to many by sharing their humorous take on life.

Humor is a tremendous form of ministry. You don’t have to be a professional comedian to do it. So, if you are the one in your circle of influence who always has the comic edge and outlook on life, you have a way to minister. Sharing that gift on a larger scale helps make life a little easier and more enjoyable for others.

Ministry starts small and grows

I work with clients who believe they are meant to write books to be a ministry tool for helping others. They take it very seriously. They made the decision to write and share their personal testimony.

Some of them began by writing their testimony of a particular experience they had. They printed off copies of it and shared it offline with anyone interested. In addition, they emailed copies of it to those in the digital world. Some shared their testimony to various groups and churches. Others share a powerful message to minister to kids or young people.

The possibilities are limitless. The question for you is, Is writing my Christian testimony for me? For some of you, the answer is already a clear yes. For others, it might not be so clear-cut right now.

So, I encourage you to pray about this and ask for God’s direction. As a Christian writer, step up and be counted. The process is simple, if not always super easy. But the payoff in both ministry and personal growth is quite phenomenal. It’s up to you.
